The main problem of almost all small wind-turbines available is a disturbing noise of the rotor. This can only be avoided by a very clean design and production of the blades based on a detailed knowledge of low speed aerodynamics as well as the complex aero-acustics. Even experts are often surprised how much the aerodynamics and resulting noise of rotating blades differ from the well known aerodynamics of airplane wings.
The design of the - blades focused only on the optimisation of the aerodynamics and lowest possible noise. An original Air-X was tested in the wind-tunnel to record the power-curve as a base for a complex computer aided design new blades with ideal shape and torsion to fit Air-X Generator. Most attention was put on the low resistance design of the wingtip to reduce the noise that is mainly produced here.
Wind-tunnel tests including noise recordings have proven that the - blades produce up to 70% less noise compared to the original Air-X-blades. This specially shows up in the frequency range between 1 and 12,5 kHz, that is most disturbing for human ears. The subjective validation in real life conditions has so far convinced everyone completely! You have to listen very closely to tell the sounds that the rotor emits from the noise that the trees do in the wind
By using High–Tensile carbon fibres in hand laminated application with epoxy-resin the blades are extremely stiff; that results in only one third deformation of the blade under the same load. The flutter noise could de eliminated completely. Furthermore this material that is well known from Formula 1 and Aerospace by its outstanding strength to weight ratio. This makes the -blades very light and undestructible even in high winds.
